I am connecting to imap servers for some of my 10 or so accounts. One of these imap servers is slow and has folders containing O(1000) messages. Often when Thunderbird is doing an operation on one folder in this account (e.g. moving junk mail to trash), it refuses to list messages in the inbox or open a message until the operation is complete. When this takes 10 minutes it is very annoying.

Really, that does not sounds like a server that should be used for IMAP.
