many times a day, many times an hour, popup ads about updating firefox interrupt my screen viewing. one is very small in the lower right corner; the other covers nearly the whole screen. how can i stop these, or at least get them down to once a day instead of several times an hour? they are extremely annoying. i have already clicked "block popup ads" but these are from firefox itself.

Hi   !
These are fake updates   !
Please, don't ever click on anything on these pages   ! Firefox will always update from within the browser and not from a random webpage. Scammers have been using this tactic, trying to get users to download and infect their computer. Hard to get rid off, as they will change their URL on a daily basis.

You could consider an ad-blocking add-on like :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/?src=ss

Hi, note that XP is supported up to v52 and you are running v47 so some notifications may be genuine - Firefox has ended support for Windows XP and Vista

You can check for genuine updates yourself, by opening the 3-bar menu > Help (question mark at bottom right) > About Firefox. Alternatively, you can press the Alt key to bring up the main menu bar > Help > About Firefox. More - Update Firefox to the latest release.

Yeay, these fake updates are a real pain in the toosh. Hopefully you will have seen the last of them   (fingers crossed). But should you see them again : You know what to do   -   or rather :   what   not   to do   !
