Trying to import Windows Live Mail contacts into T-bird, but there does not seem to be a way any more to add the suggested add-on MoreFunctionsForAddressBook

I am trying to import contacts from Windows Live Mail. But the instructions seem to be outdated. They suggest installing the add-on MoreFunctionsForAddressBook, but it is not available as an add-on on the add-on page. So I downloaded it off the link given, but there does not seem to be a way to install it into Thunderbird. Instructions say that there is a link next to the left of the search box to install an add-on from a file. But that link is not there, at least not any more, or at least not when I look.

You should download the xpi file from here:

https://freeshell.de/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html

You can install it in two ways:

  1. You can drag and drop it onto the Extensions tab in the Add-ons pane in Thunderbird.
  2. You can click the button next to the search box on that Extensions tab and select install from file. The screenshot attached to this post shows a Linux version of Thunderbird, so yours may show a different icon.

Thank you! When I go to add the file, I get a choice of of 3 folders--Chrome, components, and defaults. Do you know which I should choose?

That doesn't seem right. Can you provide a screen shot of what you're seeing?

It sounds almost as if you have unzipped the xpi file. You really don't need to do that.

You're right! I did unzip it. So I downloaded it again and dragged and dropped it onto the Extensions tab in the Add-ons pane in Thunderbird. And it worked. Problem solved!

Since it was multiple posts that combined to resolve my issue, how should i mark my issue as resolved. The last post that did it?

Thank you for your help!

When you go to the windows people folder, are your windows live mail contacts there? To get to contacts press Windows key +R type wab and press enter.

I assume you have a hotmail/live/msn/outlook email account. are you contacts shown on that web site?
