In Firefox 60.0.1, when I type: about.config in the address and then hit Enter. The address changes to "www.about.config" and The page says cannot find that page. What must I change in Firefox to allow me to open the about.config page?

Hi, I think you need to go back down to the Extended Release Version https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/organizations/all/ in the 52.8.0 as Firefox 60.0 is not supported for XP. Also June next month XP/Vista is not supported by Firefox at all. So please return to the esr version where you should be.

You may have created problems with your Profile by going up and certainly might while going back.
