how can I get a single line feed when writing an E-mail

When I go to type an E-Mail and hit the Enter Key I get a double line feed. It should look like the first two lines of this note.

Now is the time for all

good men to aid their country.

The above two lines is what I get. I want the message to look like one line typed directly under the previous line

Change the setting in Options to use paragraph format instead of Body Text by default.
