I downloaded the new Firefox and now it makes me sync every time I boot up the computer and forgets all my passwords. (so the routine is now turn on computer, login into firefox, login into email, confirm sync, THEN do anything else on my computer). How do I permanently have it remember the sync and open the tabs from last time upon opening firefox?

Having to reconnect to Sync is related to losing the passwords.

Firefox uses the Password Manager to store the credentials of the Firefox Sync account (chrome://FirefoxAccounts) to make it possible to connect to Sync each time you start Firefox without the need to enter email and password. If you are asked to login again to Sync then this means that the Sync credential data isn't stored in the Password Manager.

Do you possibly have logins.json.corrupt files in the profile folder?

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Also, Your ‘logged-in’ status is stored in special cookies. If the cookie is removed, you are logged out.

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.

I'm trying to make it store my tabs/logins etc, rather than erase them.

When I turn-on my computer, it has logged me off (without asking me) from sync so I have to redo it everytime I turn on my computer, confirm it in gmail. It adds an extra 3-5 minutes to get started.

@co-rel thank you for the reply - this is way above my understanding, tho: "Do you possibly have logins.json.corrupt files in the profile folder?"

I tried to follow the instructions you gave but I don't have "profile directory" on my menu:

"You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder

You can alternatively open the about:profiles page via the location/address bar to access the profile folder.

Your currently used profile has:

  • This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted

You need to click the "Open in Finder" button on the Root Directory line.

The Firefox profile folder is in a hidden location in your Home directory (~/Library).

  • /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/
