My profile includes 4 email accounts. Checking in my profile folder all of them have files mail.[account name].msf but two also have files mail.[account name]-1.msf. There are also six sub folders with the same duplication. Why should this be?

I'm having issues with one of the accounts with "duplicates" stopping to respond when it checks new mail for spam or to sort into folders. Could this be part of the problem?

The most common cause of numbered files appearing is overly aggressive anti virus locking files when they are in use. Try creating an exception in your anti virus program for the Thunderbird profile folder to prevent on access scanning.
