Unfortunately, it is not the first time that Thunderbird is defective after an update. I have currently not received any e-mails since November 29, 2020 - no inbox. Sent mails are also not saved - only locally. Hardware: Windows 10 - Mail service provider GMX. The mails arrive on other hardware devices such as apple ipad or Android smart phone. I would be pleased if mails would arrive on my PC again. I hope for your support.

Sincerely Mr. M. Engelhorn

I still have the same problem, but since a slightly different date. I asked my Internet provider, and they suggested that it might be problems with the password. I switched off my antivirus program and I changed my passrord, but still couldn't get in touch with the provider's server. Then I closed my mail account in Thunderbird and configurated the same account again. But the account could not be connected.

Well, now I find that this issue is mentioned in the pages which are linked to, to the right on this page. I will read them and hope that it might give me a solution.

first check your AV/FW/SS software, you may have to disable "mail-protection" option, more info.

some options are mentioned here. backup all TB-"profile" then begin to follow option(s).

major difference of earlier v68 series TB & newer v78 series TB is that by-default v78 will not use weak/old/unsafe security protocols, unless user manually changes it, and other (problematic) changes are: usage of non-GPG based OpenPGP , not sufficient warning to users that Downgrade will not possible, or what exact chnages are done & what wil lstop functioning, etc.

My problem was due to a minor change in my antivirus, ESET/NOD32. If you use ESET I think you can solve your problem in a simple way by following their instruction in https://support.eset.com/en/kb3126-disable-ssl-filtering-in-eset-windows-products .

Thanks for pointing this out. Many people have been having trouble with ESET.

This date very much suggests your problem is likely caused by ESET. But in case it is not, you can find broader advice in the knowledge base, for example https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-receive-messages
