When reading a Thunderbird message I accidentally pressed some key combination and up came the message "Advance to next unread message". That's exactly what I want at other times so that I don't have to close one message in order to read the next one! What is the key combination that I pressed? And are there any other hidden navigation actions like this?

Thanks. I've just found the documentation on keyboard shortcuts and there are some useful things there. Thanks for your help.
