Built-in Android Autofill doesn't work with Firefox for Android

I'm a bit of a privacy freak, so I'm using my own password manager, not Firefox's built-in service. I have it synced on my Android phone, and my password manager app works well with Android's own "Autofill Service", i.e., in various apps and browsers, when I click on a field that looks like a username or a password, a small window pops up, offering me to autofill this credential field using my password manager. This feature works well with the Chrome for Android browser, but sadly it does not work reliably with Firefox for Android. I occasionally see the popup appear for a blink, but then it disappears quickly, and more often than not, it doesn't pop up at all. I wonder what is special in Firefox that breaks this very convenient feature.

Any help would be appreciated.

Chrome on Android +'privacy freak'= Seriousely?

You missed the point. I said autofill works with Chrome, not that I'm using it. If I were using Chrome, not Firefox, this issue wouldn't bother me, would it?

If the autofill works where it should not, check yourself first. Common sense.

You are not being helpful. Please stop.

(If you are implying that Android Autofill not working with Firefox is a feature, not a bug, then I think you are wrong, otherwise I shouldn't be able to see the popup occasionally. But even if you were correct, you could focus more on the point, and less on ad hominem arguments. Or you could simply ignore the question, and not respond at all.)

Hi David

I am sorry about those earlier comments from someone who has now been removed from the support forum.

There are some cases of other apps and services having not tested their app with the new, rebuilt, Firefox for Android. I suggest that you contact the password apps support team and see if they can do this soon as that will help resolve this issue.

I'm having the same problem with Bitwarden so I contacted their support. Any resolution?

Frankly, I don't think it is application dependent. All apps should support the Android Autofill Framework, which is responsible for connecting services (such as password managers) with clients (such as browsers). The whole point of the framework is to standardize the interface between the various actors. It seems that Firefox for Android has issues with the Framework in general, not the specific service (which happens to be Keepass2Android in my case).

I have looked into this with our developers and there does appear to be an acknowledged issue in Keepass2Android. The author of that software recommends using 1.08d-r3 or later.

I hope that this helps.

Thanks, Seburo! I checked, and indeed, the newest version of Keepass2Android claims to have fixed some issue with Firefox Autofill. I gave it a quick test, it worked on github, and it did not work on one of my banking sites. I will keep testing, though, and keep you posted.

I've been having similar issues with Enpass on Firefox 90.1.3 Enpass support team also mentioned it was a problem on Firefox (see thread here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1323181 )

Can you confirm this is indeed not caused by Firefox? It seems to be a problem across multiple password managers on Firefox.
