Repairing an email account
How do I fix a corrupted email in Thunderbird? How to Repair Thunderbird Folders Turn off automatic mail checking in Thunderbird as a precaution. ... Right-click the folder you want to repair and select Properties from the menu that appears. Go to the General Information tab and select Repair Folder. Select OK.
I found the above on the internet, however, the instructions are very vague inasmuch that it does not tell you where to locate what you are doing e.g. select the email account and from drop down menu select properties? That's all fine, but having disabled automatic checking it says right click on folder you want to repair, but where does this mean? It's all so wonderfully vague.

Familiarise yourself with Tbird's main window parts here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/getting-started-thunderbird-main-window
All your accounts and their respective folders are listed in the Folder Pane. Unless otherwise stated, any mention of accounts and folders refers to those shown in the Folder Pane. If you right-click an account and choose Settings, the Account Settings page opens, with the selected account in focus. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configuration-options-accounts
Hi Stan, I am just trying to find where you can right click on the email address and see drop down menu with properties on it so that I can repair account. All the help stuff pictures are not what you see on a Mac.

There is no Properties or Repair option for an account (email address). Properties is available for folders only. Right-click a folder and you'll see the Properties option.
OK. so, country to Mozilla instruction you therefore cannot repair an email address as, the email address does not have a folder so you cannot go to properties?
Which instructions?
Oh, right, just realised it was relating to folders. I had an ongoing problem with SMTP connection in Thunderbird and Apple Mail and I believe now that it is to do with a problem on my router. It has been going on for various times for about a month now and I can receive emails in but at times cannot send anything out.
In the end I turned off my router from the mains for 20 minutes and it seems to have cleared the issue and my service provider is sending out a new router.
So, this is all redundant now.
Thanks for your help.

re :in as much that it does not tell you where to locate what you are doing e.g. select the email account and from drop down menu select properties?
Just to clarify for future reference - instruction did not say 'select the email account ' - it said 'Right-click the folder you want to repair '
Your folders are in the left Folder Pane listed below the mail account name folder. Your folder are 'Inbox, Sent, Drafts, etc....'
- Right-click on the folder you want to repair eg: 'Inbox' and select 'Properties' from the drop down menu that appears.
- On 'General Information' tab and click on 'Repair Folder' button.
- Click on 'OK'.
If the messages appear to be mixed up or not dispaying correctly, the index file may not be correctly aligned with the mbox file that stores the emails. 'Repair Folder' repairs the index file so it correctly shows what is in mbox file.
