Since Norton 360 Update, Firefox password manager is not working

more options

Norton recently issued a major update to their Norton 360 software. Since then the passwords that I saved in Firefox's password manager do not work. I go to the webpage and the passwords simply do not show up and cannot be used. Did Norton suddenly block the Firefox password and sign in function? Call me Puzzled.

That would be something you need to ask Norton support about.

If you check the Settings page, is the built-in password manager disabled? The following article has more information on where to find the setting:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/password-manager-remember-delete-edit-logins#w_disable-the-firefox-password-management-feature

If if it turned off and can't be turned back on, it could be that Norton is trying to get you to switch to their password manager. Maybe there is a setting in Norton to allow using browser password managers. (I don't have Norton so I don't know whether it has this setting.)

OMG!! Today there is a very clear message on the Settings - Privacy & Security page under Passwords that reads in bold font as follows: "Norton Password Manager controls this setting." All the Firefox controls are greyed out so they cannot be used. So the problem is NOT with Mozilla Firefox. It is a brand new feature in Norton 360 Security.

Guess I'm going to have a another chat with the folks at Norton. Their product has gotten so annoying that I am not renewing and I caution anyone who is thinking of buying their security to look elsewhere.

Thank you for your help.

That could refer to a Norton Password Manager add-on. Does Firefox let you disable the add-on right from the Settings page? If not, you can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. On the right side, find the "Manage Your Extensions" heading.

If there is at least one extension before the next heading -- "Recommended Extensions" -- please continue:

Then cast a critical eye over the list below that heading. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Presumably Norton's will be well labeled. If you spot anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why, it's best to disable (or remove). For your privacy and security, don't let mystery programs linger here.

Any improvement?
