I want to permenatly turn "Awesome Bar" Off

more options

I have followed all the advice in the support forums but to no avail. I want to permanently disable, turn off or therwise shut down the feature that remembers past web sites. Every time I go to Tools>Options>Privacy and make changes (like never remember history and selecting or deselecting other options) the changes simply revert back to what they previously were. I must say this is very frustrating. I am running Windows & Pro on an HP Probook and the latest version of Firefox.

Essentially, I do not want history of sites visited nor do I want Firefox to suggest web sites as i begin to type a URL address.

Thank you very much for your time and suggestions......

Chosen solution

Enter about:config into the address bar, click through any warnings, then into the Filter box paste:

browser.urlbar.maxRichResults

Double-click the line listing that preference to change the value to 0

Also change the value of the following preference to 0

browser.history_expire_days

and change the value of:

browser.history_expire_sites

to 1
