With one FF browser open and multiple tabs being used. I open a second FF browser to use one or more tabs. When I'm done with the second FF browser I close it. Once I take this action my original FF browser closes too. This is unacceptable when working with multiple tabs on multiple FF browsers.

Are you using the Close X on the title bar or do you use File > Exit ?

Using "File > Exit" will close the browser. If you use the close X or "File > Close Window" then only the current window should close and not the browser. If that happens that make sure the an extension isn't causing this.
