Why do I need to enter a URL twice, in succession, before being taken to the website?

When I type a URL in the address bar, I'm now taken to another Firefox page, with almost no text just a lot of balckness, and need to re-enter the URL in the address bar. This time, I am taken to the website. This started a month ago. Don't know why it changed, but I'd like to change it back so it's necessary to enter a URL only once before being taken to the website. Thanks for any help you can offer. Kevin

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thank you for your suggestions. I started Firefox in the safe mode, then restarted, but the problem persisted. As suggested, I then started Firefox in the safe mode, clicked "Reset toolbars and controls," clicked "Make Changes and Restart", and the problem persisted.  :(

Looks like this is a Tab Mix Plus error. See http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15690 ... where updating TMP to the latest fixes the problem.
