windows cannot findC:/program files/firefox.exe Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button and then click search.

This error message appears each time I try to launch firefox on my desktop. restarting and reinstalling has not worked.

Sounds like the shortcut is corrupt. The easiest thing to do is to create a new one like this.

Delete the existing shortcut on your desktop.

Then open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox.

Right click and hold down the right mouse button while you drag firefox.exe onto the desktop. When you let go of the right mouse button, you'll get a menu. Choose Create Shortcut Here

Close Windows Explorer and then double click the new shortcut to launch Firefox.

I was really hoping that would fix it, but......................It still has the same message when I click on the shortcut. Thanks for trying though. I appreciate your help.

Does the firefox.exe file have a Firefox logo? It should also be 903KB.

Did you check that location to see if that folder and the Firefox program are still there?

Do a clean (re-)install:

  • Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
  • Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
  • It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

I tried the clean install you suggested and I also have burned a copy of the file from the computer it already works great on and i still get the same message when I transfer it to the laptop. Thanks for your suggestions though, I appreciate them.

Do you see the files in the Firefox program folder on that laptop?

Make sure that the actual files are copied and not just shortcuts.
