I Think all the info you need is contained in my question as the problem is solved by pressing CTRL+F5 but what I want to do is make a permanent fix. This problem only occurs in FF4, never had it in any previous version of firefox which I have been using for the last 5 years. Plusnet and E-bay are examples of pages that fail to load correctly.

Update to v4.0.1 by clicking Help | About Firefox | Check For Updates.

Also, update you Flash installation because the one you have at the moment exposes your system to exploits. See http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-12.html Update link at the foot of the page.

If that doesn't fix the problem, see Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Also make sure that you allow Firefox in the firewall. You may need to remove all rules for Firefox in the firewall and let the firewall ask again for permission.
