Sorry, I can't get that website to load in IE8, there's a problem with the security certificate. Same warning in Firefox. I am not going to "accept" that website and allow it to load in any browser.

Firefox doesn't need a "compatibility mode" like IE has, because Firefox has always followed the applicable W3C web standards. IE needs that "compatibility mode" so it doesn't break non-standard websites that they supported prior to Microsoft "seeing the light" and embracing the web standards.
