Under Disabling the Mozilla Maintenance Service on the Mozilla Maintenance Service page, instruction #1 is for getting to Preferences in Mac Firefox, not Options in Windows Firefox. If the Maintenance Service is for Windows, why put in an instruction that applies to Mac Firefox?

You are using a Mac to ask your question. If you go to that page with a Mac, the fact that you are using a Mac is detected (as on most Mozilla help articles), and the Mac instructions are displayed. To see instructions for another OS, change the setting in the right margin of the page under "Article is for...".

Support articles will detect your Firefox version and operating system, and display appropriate information. You can also manually switch using the links on the right, below “Article is for”.

Viewed on a Mac, the article has a note at the top that says,

Note: The article only applies to Windows.

If the note wasn't there before, it means the article was recently updated. Anyone can update articles. If you're interested in helping, see

For the record, the article being discussed is What is the Mozilla Maintenance Service?

What is the point of putting in revised instructions for Mac Firefox if the whole thing applies only to Windows? In that case, browser-sniffing will not be much help anyway. I take it that this kind of thing will be only for Windows, never for Mac OS?

finitarry, I made a revision and started a discussion thread in the What is the Mozilla Maintenance Service? article's discussion forum, here.

The Mozilla Maintenance Service is only for Windows. More info here:

Alice, That first page is still showing the Mac-adjusted first step for disabling the service. "1. On the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Preferences... ."
