The speakers on my laptop work fine, outside of any browser. However, in either FF or IE the audio volume is stuck at barely audible, even though I have the volume wheel set at maximum. I am in a Windows XP environment, using FF 16.0.1.

After removing and reinstalling Flashplayer 11, I noticed that the sound control on each video was set at minimum. I just slid the sound control up at the bottom of the video in question, and I got sound. I don't know what caused the sound to reset to minimum, but the problem appears to have been resolved. I hope for longer than a few hours this time.

Does this happen with all plugins or only with the Flash plugin?

Try to clear the Flash local storage and settings.

  • Windows Control Panel > Flash Player > Storage: Local Storage Settings
    • Remove a specific domain: Local Storage Settings by site
    • Remove all domains: Delete All and Delete Data

Flash Website Storage Settings panel:

Global Storage Settings Panel:

I resolved the problem by uninstalling Quicktime. I had recently been prompted by AdBlock to update Quicktime. Several days later this audio-volume problem developed. I have NO idea why Quicktime is even required on PCs these days, when we have Flashplayer installed. Anyway, I uninstalled Quicktime, and my problem was resolved.

I cleared the local storage cache in Flashplayer. I still have not got audio on my videos.

Removing Quicktime worked for several hours. Then my audio dropped out again.
