When I open a new tab I want to see a blank screen, as I always used to do, instead of seeing a screen populated by recent websites I've visited.

I'm on Firefox 16.0.2. About a week or two ago this change spontaneously happened. When I open a fresh tab, I want to see a blank screen. That's what I'm used to. Now for some reason my new tab is populated with up to nine websites that I visited previously. I do NOT want this! How do I change it back to get a blank screen??
