I have been trying to download firefox on a pc with windows vista, fiefox set up wants me to access an administrator account. There are two users on this machine windows designates them both as administrators but at the same time discourages making one adminisrator. firefox prompts me for an administrator and a password, i tried adding a password to my user account but it wasn't accepted, if i try the alternative of using "current user" there is no response and the download box disappears. This is getting ridiculous. Please help.

I'm assuming you're downloading the Firefox installer from http://www.getfirefox.com/ with Internet Explorer. Something else to try:

You should choose the SAVE option (don't use the Run option). Once the download is finished, open the Downloads folder for your Windows account, then right-click the Firefox setup.exe file inside and choose Run as Administrator.

I have never used Vista ,but the important thing is the account type not the account name. You will be looking for an administrator status account, rather than a limited account.

I am not even sure if an administrator account is necessary on Vista for a simple Firefox install, but the instructions are here:

Regardless of the current problem you do need to discover which accounts you can get into that are administrator accounts, or at the very least be able to run with administrator privileges otherwise you will at some stage inevitably run into problems that you are unable to resolve.

Do you have the hidden "Administrator" account enabled, if it prompts for a password, don't enter one and just leave it blank, then try to install.

roselmccormick,

You are replying to a 5-month thread started by another Firefox user. See Mozilla Support rules and guidelines: For support requests, do not re-use existing threads started by others, even if they are seemingly on the same subject..

You can check Installing Firefox which links to different articles, depending on your operating system. If you need more help you should ask a new question. I'll close this thread.
