I've got these installed, but Firefox uses Flash Player:

  • The QuickTime Plugin allows you to view a wide variety of multimedia content in Web pages. For more information, visit the QuickTime Web site.
  • Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900
  • Google Update
  • iTunes Detector Plug-in
  • Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 11.0.05
  • VLC media player Web Plugin 2.0

Websites specify in their code which plugin to use and that is most of the time Flash. Other plugin are a lot less commonly used.
Some sites like Netflix use the Silverlight plugin.

There are also websites that can use the built-in HTML5 media player and work without a plugin.
