Connect another computer to Firefox Sync

more options

I have Firefox Sync on my main laptop (COMP1) and I added my iPhone (DEVICE1). This setup works fine.

I now have a new laptop (COMP2) and plan to retire COMP1.

What is the best approach to recreating my connection for COMP2 and DEVICE1?

I tried using this method, but don't think this will work once I wipe COMP1 clean: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-up-firefox-sync?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=share-bookmarks-tabs-and-more-your-other-computers#w_get-the-code-on-another-computer

Steps followed: Connect another computer to Firefox Sync

Do these steps on the second computer that you are trying to add to Firefox Sync.

At the top of the Firefox window, click the Firefox button and select Set Up Sync. The Firefox Sync Setup window will open.
   Click I Have an Account.
Since you're not near the device with Sync already set up, click the I don't have the device with me link.
Sign in to your Sync account:
       Enter your account email address
       Enter your password
       Enter your Recovery Key
       Then click Next
You will see a Setup Complete screen. Click Finish to complete adding this device to your Sync account.

Chosen solution

First, the individual devices / computers don't connect to each other. It's a hub and spoke set of connections; the Sync server is the "hub" (sits in the middle) and each device / computer is a "spoke".

What you described is the way to proceed, but you forgot one step - Unlink (in Sync prefs) in Comp 1 before you wipe the data from it! Or disconnect your network connection before doing the wipe. Either of those will prevent the changes that you make to Comp1 from being sent to the Sync server, thus no deletion of your Sync'd data from the server, or any other device when they would connect to the Sync server.
