I've been using Netscape Mail 7.1 since it first came out, but I'm moving to the Apple Mac world and need to keep my old emails. I've been told by the Apple Genius Bar people that I could do this with Thunderbird.

Thanks christ1. With your link I was also able to find an article on the Mozillazine web site for migrating the email messages.

If you install a version of Thunderbird prior to 12 it will import your mail directly from Netscape mail along with contacts etc.

If you can tell me what operating system your running Netscape on I can point you to an appropriate download. (Language as well please ie US English British English French etc)

In the absence of anything to the contrary I will assume a US version http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/3.1.20/win32/en-US/

Thunderbird 3.1 is linked. stable and has the necessary bits.
