Hi there,

I have browsed the forums a bit to find a solution to this, but even the link to the page which allows you to disable the hardware acceleration ends in flash player crashing. I have updated to the latest version of flash, and it just makes the problem worse. If I open up ANY site with flash on it, my computer will hang, and I get that little message saying 'Prevent this happening again' with the tick box, so I tick and hit ok, and 2 secs later the same happens. I have to go through this heaps to get a page I can read, then next time I load the page, I have to go through the same process. Can anybody point me to a solution?

Cheers  :)

My latest crash reports are these:

Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if it opens?

  • Windows: Hold the SHIFT key while double clicking the Firefox icon on your Desktop
  • Mac: Hold the OPTION key while double clicking Firefox in your Applications folder
  • Linux: Run the firefox -safe-mode command in your Terminal/Konsole (Ubuntu/Kubuntu)

Try disabling Hardware Acceleration.

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

Hi Moses, thanks for your reply. I have seen that on other replies to my question.

Firstly, I can open firefox, but as soon as I hit a flash player page, it hangs and then crashes or takes ages (I am talking at least 5 odd minutes here!) to carry on, and then struggles like sin, so I'm not sure how starting in safe mode would help me.....?

Secondly, flash crashes when I try to load the page you suggest for disabling the hardware acceleration, so can't even try that. It got to the point today where I just uninstalled adobe flash today, which has improved my life no end!  ;) Problem is that soo many websites require it these days, that I will have to reinstall it at some point and suffer the same issues.....

Any thoughts on how to overcome this? Can I disable hardware acceleration without going to the page you suggest?

Thanks  :)

hello, maybe it's an issue with the protected mode in the flash plugin - you could try if disabling protected mode makes a difference.
