I am experiencing a symptom sometimes when I delete a message in the Thunderbord email client (in any folder), all messages disappearing from all accounts in the entire Thunderbird including Inbox, Drafts, Trash, Sent and everything else. All folders become empty. The messages are not deleted, just not showing. Using the Trash icon of Thunderbird or pressing the delete key are the same. There is no way to display the messages again except to close and re-open Thunderbird. After that, everything return to normal. This does not always happen, about 75% of time. Thunderbird version is 128.6.0esr (64-bit), Windows 11 but the same also happened on previous versions and Windows 10.

Like the title says, I am getting some emails that move from Unified Inbox to an IMAP subfolder of account X, but remain visible in the UNIFIED Inbox.

First uploaded image shows 3 IMAP accounts as they appear in Thunderbird, second uploaded image shows how subfolders appear in IMAP account X (the third account in Thunderbird).

Mail is properly arriving in the 3rd account and shows up in both IMAP and Unified Inboxes, but only sometimes (and not with specific senders) can be moved into the 3rd account subfolder.

They are correctly removed from the IMAP Inbox but remain visible in the UNIFIED inbox and are found when I search in the UNIFIED inbox but not in the IMAP Inbox.

The messages persist in the UNIFIED Inbox through multiple restarts of Thunderbird and my PC, and some email continues to arrive in the 3rd account and cam be moved as expected, then another arrives that cannot be removed.

Strangely, if I delete the mail from the UNIFIED inbox, it is deleted both there and in the subfolder, so it appears something is making the display of the UNIFIED inbox keep a link to the new location of the email.

Any body see anything similar? I read several older threads about move problems, but this seems different.

Mail is downloading to Thunderbird, but is not going to inbox. I can only see it if I search in the universal search tool, asking to see all the mail from today's date. I can't figure out where it's going! This is a new issue, after thousands of successful downloads from my domain.

Pourrais -t-on avoir un onglet "Contacts" dans l'App Android ? Ce programme pourrait éventuellement se connecter à différentes boîtes mail (Google, Orange,...) et fusionner tout cela dans une seule et même boîte. Hi. I received an email sent to a gsuite group that has several subgroups and I am a member of one of those subgroups. I clicked reply on my thunderbird beta for android, and instead of replying to the sender, I replied to the subgroup I am a member of. I think there is a mistake somewhere.

TBird 128.6.0esr on W10 .. something has changed ..emails are coming in to Optus australia webserver as usual , but not available in TBird automatically , and cannot retrieve via "get messages"... can read ,print on webserver.

.how can i check what are my existing preferences ? what are the latest IMAP and POP settings ? how can i update those settings on an existing account ? or how re-enter those settings.

also can compose emails in TB as usual , but cannot send emails .. help , please..

I've just installed Thunderbird 8 and my three email accounts on my Android phone. One is for my own "xxx.co.uk" business domain, but every time I send an email from that address it bounces back. My host provider has examined the headers generated by Thunderbird and cannot see a problem, and suggested it might be a Thunderbird bug? I've adjusted the initial SMTP settings to match those on my desktops, but no luck. Any ideas?

Hi there, I set up a filter with action "Reply from Template". The template message looks to be okay and displayed normaly when sending directly. But if the message is sent using the filter, it shows a lot of unnecessery "text" and it is not displaying some of characters correctly. Any suggestions? Difference showed in images bellow.

Hi all, When I reply to an email after I click send, the email is somehow not sent to where it should be going but comes back to my inbox. If I select that incoming email, go to the Message menu, select Edit as a new message, and just send it straight away, it gets sent to where it should be and is put into the sent box as well. Is there something I've done wrong in the background, or is it a bug. Thanks in advance Steve

  Thunderbird on Ubuntu for many years. Started from Ubuntu 20 or so it periodically stops receiving mails from pop yahoo account. Nothing described in community threads helps. It can be for month, two or three, then at some moment it starts receiving emails(nothing changed, even server not restarted, thunderbird keeps hanging not receiving emaiils) and receives for some period(can be couple of days or few weeks). after that it can stop receiving again and it hangs for long.
 This situation is for few years for now. last time it stopped receiving emails in mid of December. before this it was working fine for couple of months. 
 As nothing changes on my side I assume issue is on yahoo?

current release: Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS 128.6.0esr (64-bit)

 When not receiving emails I can see following in error log:

I am currently using Thunderbird (128.6.0esr) on a Mac with OS Sonoma (14.7.1). I have used Thunderbird for many years with a Gmail account on both Windows and Mac machines, and it has always worked well.

But a couple of days ago when I tried to open Thunderbird it went into some kind of loop. The MacOS spinning beach ball appeared and would not go away no matter what I did or how long I waited. The only way out was to Force Quit Thunderbird. Rebooting the Mac and trying again produced the same results.

I have logged into the Gmail account on the web and had no trouble accessing it. But every time (and I have made many attempts) I try to load Thunderbird the spinning beach ball appears again.

I cannot check any of the various settings that Help articles have suggested checking since Thunderbird will not load at all.

If anyone can suggest how to resolve my problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have been using the old Microsoft Calendar app on my laptop to manage my Google calendar which is also shared on my android phone, but the MS Calendar app no longer works after the latest Microsoft update. I decided to switch to using the calendar in Thunderbird since I already use it for email. But I get an error if I try to import a single calendar event from a .ics file.

I successfully shared my entire Google calendar read/write in Thunderbird and I can create new calendar events, so I know that it is writeable. But when I attempt to import a .ics file, I get an error saying "Import failed unexpectedly. more information may be available in the Error Console." I don't know how to view the Error Console, so I'm stuck. I can see that Thunderbird opens the .ics file and previews the contents just fine. But the last step of the import process fails.

Why won't Thunderbird import the calendar invite in a .ics file into the calendar from my Google account?

My husband's emails are arriving at his correspondent as though they have come from my email address. This means that his correspondents keep replying to me and not to him. So far I have not been able to see anything wrong with our settings. Any ideas as how to correct this, please?

Alwasy had Inbox drafts sent deleted

re-added my account after moving to MS 365 from another iMap account

now have inbox then all my folders then drafts etc.

Is there a way to revert back?

Also another query, ref subscribed, in all my years never noticed this setting before (never had ny hidden) but I used import/export tool to backup from old server to import for the new one (may also be relative to my problem above) The folders were all hidden on import.

Can you advise if subscribed just hides these folders or actually prevents syncing to the server. I can test but would like to understand the purpose of this feature?

The problem with standard email storage methods is that they don't scale well. Mbox, the default in Thunderbird, creates large files, and if you backup changed files, every backup requires recopying a multi-gigabyte file, because it has changed when even one message was added or deleted. Maildir, the alternative, puts each message in a separate file. But file systems have a lot of overhead and their own limits. When you have hundreds of thousands of messages, especially on a PC, that clutters the computer's file system, and between the file cluster size and directory overhead, it wastes a lot of space and slows down other operations. Two bad options. And let's not be too snarky about what that company from Redmond does in its awful mail system, with a giant proprietary mail database file that sometimes gets corrupted...

It is obviously a lot to ask to create a new mail file format that scales better. It would not be standard and could break some things anyway, though in the long run it might be a good idea. But I have an idea that might work for Thunderbird. As it stands now, it is possible to create archive files by month or year. Then new mail doesn't require those to be re-copied. WHAT IF a "virtual mailbox" could be created that, instead of consisting of one Mbox file or one maildir directory, consisted of a set of Mbox files treated by the UI as one? Quick Filter would filter them all as one, unlike with archives, and you could scroll through them all and sort them and see threads, but they'd be stored as monthly or annual (or whatever) files, the way archives are. Sending and receiving would be unchanged, using the current folders, but periodically the folder could have the oldest ones moved out and still made part of a virtual folder.

There are some modest virtual folder capabilities now, but I don't see how to do this. Does it seem like a possibility with what's there, or a modest enhancement, or is that the kind of thing that would be a huge effort?

Hello, Using a MacBook M1, MacOS: Sequoia 15.2.

New Thunderbird version (Version 128.6.0esr 64 bit) automatically downloaded this sunday 12 th. In the write email screen I still can input "To" and "Subject", but I cannot write any text ! Send button now inactive About Thunderbird (after clicking "Thunderbird top left) now inactive "Settings" now inactive Contact list on left side is empty (as shown in capture 1)

AlsoThunderbird now opens up in this window (capture 2), whereas before it would open (correctly) with the "in messages" Thanks for your help ! Dikran

I deleted all of the .msf files from my profile using a tool called "thunderfix." To the best of my knowledge, all that it does is remove the msf files from the profile folder. It's always worked well and cleaned up a slow opening inbox for many years.

However, after running thunderfix yesterday and restarting Thunderbird (Win 11, version 128.6.0esr (64-bit)), I could hear the incoming message chime, but the messages never appeared.

The screen was blank on first open, with no messages appearing, existing or new incoming ones, but the existing ones appeared after I moved to another folder and returned to the inbox. The new messages never appeared. I know they were sent and received as I keep a backup of all of my incoming emails on a separate gmail account.

Once the inbox came back with the existing messages, new incoming messages appeared as they usually do.

Does anyone know what might have happened and if the 10-15 missing messages in Thunderbird can be recovered without resorting to the the gmail backup?

Where did they go after I heard the incoming chime?

Also, is Thunderfix no longer a reliable tool?

Hi, I'm wondering if the following is a bug.

I'm using thunderbird 128.6.0esr. When I want to use "Edit as New Message" or inline Forward on message signed with S/MIME, the message body becomes empty. It does not matter if it was signed by me or anybody else. I tried reinstalling thunderbird.
