I have Thunderbird version 24.5.0 running under Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. No problems. Thunderbird has advised me that there is an update which I ought to install, version 24.6.0. The file downloads but when I try to install it Windows tells me that it is not compatible with Win 64 bit. I have tried installing as an Administrator but it makes no difference. There's something dumb here since Thunderbird is currently working fine.

Sure is something dumb, but I do not know what it is. Something to do with "your" windows as my windows 7 professional 64bit updates fine. Could be related to security software you have installed.

You could try windows safe made and see if that allows the update
