Currently have 4 thumbnail bookmarks that display when i click on plus sign that generates a new tab ... I have tried unsuccessfully to add more sites by following suggestions on mozilla help pages, i.e. clicking on blank thumbnail space as well as dragging from bookmarks library... all to no avail. Help appreciated.

You can try to reset these prefs on the about:config page via the right-click context menu:

  • browser.newtabpage.pinned
  • browser.newtabpage.blocked

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar and you can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Thank you for your suggestion. It didn't work for me. Links led to "page not found"... However shutting down/restarting my computer seems to have helped. Now thumbnails are automatically updating to include most recent sites visited and I'm able to pin them to stay put. So problem solved  :-)

Make sure to use a colon in the link in about:config

about: is a protocol used to access special built-in pages just like http(s): is used to access internet pages. You can open about: pages via the location/address bar.
