When I am using the spell checker, the word in question is in black with a highlight color that is at least 80% black. It is difficult to see the suspect word. Can the highlight color for all windows and the spell checker be changed to yellow or blue or green or red? Any color but almost black would due.

I'm not seeing this issue.

Are you using the default theme or one that you downloaded? Maybe an addon is interfering?

Test: Restart Thunderbird in Safe Mode.

Help > Restart with addons disabled.
