How to prevent a new tab from openning
When I open the FireFox web browser which is set to go to my Home Page a "New Tab" page opens that covers my Home Page. This "New Tab" also appears EVERY time I go to a web-site. This "New Tab" covers up the web-site and I have to close the "New Tab" to view the web-site page.
How do I stop this? I dont want this type of "help"

Hmm, sounds like an add-on. Here is my suggested procedure for finding and removing bad add-ons. This is based on the unfortunate fact that many bad add-ons arrive as part of a free software download rather than something you installed intentionally from the add-ons site.
(1) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
(2) Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Any improvement?
(3) You can search for remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

Could you check the address bar and see whether the new tab page has an address? It could be a web address (e.g., http://) or an internal address (e.g., chrome:// or resource://) or it might be blank. This could help identify what Firefox is trying to load there.
Also, could you go into the Options dialog and check your home page address to make sure it doesn't contain a vertical bar character (|). Firefox interprets a vertical bar as dividing multiple home tab addresses. These articles has more info on this feature:
Thank you.
This is what appears in the address bar on the "new tab" but only sometimes.
chrome://ntsd-b/content/newtab/newtab.html.
When I 1st get online and use FireFox as my browser my desired homepage opens BUT immediately a "new tab" opens which covers over my homepage. This "new Tab" has a blank address bar. This is what I mean by "sometimes". After I close the "new Tab" page and continue my web browsing EVERYTIME i click to a new/different web-site the above address appears in the address bar.
Thank you for any help you may lend.
And a Merry Christmas to you

Thank you again jscher
See if that add-on has an Options button. You may have to go thru the Add-ons Manager.
