I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox but it found all my old bookmarks and also restored the same problem I had before -- I am unable to log in to anything. How do I start completely fresh? Or is there another way to solve this problem -- restarting the laptop didn't help. either.

This might be a good time to try the Refresh feature. This article has more information about what it keeps and what it throws away: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Alternately, you might just need to fix your cookie settings. Please check this article for how to maximize site compatibility and, if that works but you think that's too permissive, we can describe other options: Websites say cookies are blocked - Unblock them.
