I can't update my plugins because my plugins are out of date (new install).

On a new install, the update plugin page won't load the plugin to run the updates. I get that the flash and java are outdated/insecure (looks like I have one flash, listed as outdated, and two versions of Java, one listed as outdated and one listed as insecure), but if I can't update anything, how can I browse securely? Why doesn't a new install come with new plugins? (and why would it rely on an insecure plugin to update plugins?) Silverlight is also outdated, as is Adobe.

I don't plan on using Adobe for a reader, but as best as I can tell, I can't use the web without Silverlight. I avoid Java and flash when I can, but these aren't completely avoidable.

Plugins aren't part of Firefox, they are installed by 3rd party programs and each program is responsible for updating its own plugins.

Right, thanks. I worked that out since I posted. I maybe wasn't super clear in my first post, but I really wanted to know how to make the updates work.

I am working on doing them manually.

Found Adobe Flash here: https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

And I found java here: https://www.java.com/en/download/

And Silverlight here: http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/default.aspx

I still have a warning about Java but it no longer says it needs updated, just that it's known to be vulnerable.
