Can't seem to dismiss several calendar reminders
I recently installed Thunderbird on my laptop and configured it the same way it is configured on my desktop. I am having no troubles on my desktop, but after I installed my calendar (a local calendar obtained as an .ics file from Google Calendar) a number of events keep popping up and neither the "dismiss all" nor the individual "dismiss" does anything to them. The properties for the calendar report that its location is moz-storage-calendar:// which is the same as on my desktop. All the other settings shown in "Properties" are the same as for the desktop instance, but I never have any problem dismissing those pop-up reminders. The calendars are renewed about every week with the same basic.ics from Google calendar, but nothing seems to stop these un-dismissable pop-ups. Any suggestions?

I have never used Google Calendar this way. Maybe try https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/addon/provider-for-google-calendar/ instead?
Thanks for the prompt reply. However, I don't want to use something that records on line what I put on my personal calendar. I just want to be able to put the information from Google Calendar on my laptop as I do on my desktop. When I started using Lightening, the Mozilla support site and Google both said that the way to do it was to go to the settings on Google Calendar for my calendar and use the url provided there for ICAL to import into an "On my computer" calendar. And that works fine on my desktop, but not on my laptop. The laptop keeps retaining 45 reminders and won't let me delete them, though I can delete others fine. Does the addon you suggested allow me to make the Lightening calendar read only?
Yes. You can make any calendar read-only in its preferences (open Calendar view > in the left pane right-click on the calendar > choose Options).
