Basically I am wondering this: If I download and install Thunderbird

a) Will it change or shut off anything on my outlook email b) If I get an email to my ATT.net account and have both Outlook and Thunderbird open, will I see it in both places.

Thanks in advance.

With respect to your questions:

Are you using the Office Outlook application installed on your computer, or do you mean the online version of Outlook?

Generally speaking, multiple email clients can view and modify the same email account, whether an installed application on a computer or mobile device, or a webmail interface you operate through a browser.

The danger to avoid is any application that deletes messages you do not want deleted off the server, and that is generally a matter of account setup and configuration. You might want to review this article: Glossary of Terms including types of Accounts.

If the account is set up as IMAP in Outlook, TB, your phone, tablet etc., mail will look the same on all devices. If it's set up as POP in one program, downloading the Inbox usually makes it unavailable to other programs. Plus, you would not see other folders such as Sent, Trash etc.
