Hello, I'm running FF v.46.0.1 (because I depend on the Tab Groups add-on that doesn't work with FF Quantum) on a Win. 7 pro PC. For many years I've had an RT bookmark tab (among many others) and the RT News add-on (scrolling list of all RT stories) that I've used frequently every day. Yesterday, upon booting up, when clicking on the RT tab I got only my blank (opening) page or the prior page I'd been on. RT wouldn't load. Similarly the 'News' add-on opened but displayed nothing. All my other bookmark tabs worked normally, I could access RT via IE (no tab groups of course). Trying different means (such as opening specific RT URLs I could sometimes access that URL but it would frequently go blank (as if FF was saying 'Opps, I let that one through by mistake') but couldn't open other RT pages from that one.

Does anyone know what's going on here?

How do I fix it?

Firefox Portable is a reconfigured Firefox designed to run totally self-contained off a USB flash drive. It's the Firefox that's portable, not your computer. However, it can also be installed and run from a folder on your system, such as a subfolder in your Downloads folder. That's where I put them when I occasionally need to run a weird version for testing.

Now, Portable will not run simultaneously with regular Firefox due to program name conflicts, you need to exit out of your regular Firefox during testing. If you want to install a version that can run side-by-side with regular Firefox, you could look at the "Developer Edition" which is a special version of Firefox 69 beta designed not to disturb your existing installation. https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/channel/desktop/ Note: I have not tested DE running alongside such an old version of Firefox, so I can't be sure it won't make any files incompatible.

Possibly some addresses changed on the site's side. Possibly they discontinued their legacy extension.

I don't know what the Tab Groups extension did, but there are numerous new tab-management extensions for Firefox 68. I suggest you install the Portable edition of Firefox 68 in a folder -- it will run isolated from normal Firefox -- and check some of them out to see whether you can match enough of the old capabilities to finally migrate. It's not safe to use Firefox 46 on the web.

Interesting reply since I'd been wondering if it was possible to run 2 versions of FF simultaneously. When you say "...install... in a folder" do you mean an MSWord folder (I'm guessing not). Since I don't do 'portable', only my PC, I need more of an explanation... thanks.

Although you haven't actually 'solved' my issue, the information you've provided looks to be very helpful and I'll certainly pursue it. I will, however, keep the issue 'open' in hopes of a specific resolution. Many thanks!
