I can no longer open attachments to emails, I have to save them. I have Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version 20H2 I am not certain when exactly this started. I first noticed that pictures didn't display in the emails, so I looked and corrected that. but I want to open attachments such as PDF or DOC files, but I can't. I have to save them

How did you correct your original problem? I have a suspicion the two things could be linked.

I can't find it in options now. it was a change in Tools/Options, and it was in the past two months

Try going to options/preferences and searching for files. There you should find a table of file types and actions. Mostly I have mine set in the action column to ask, but it is entirely possible they have been set to save a file.

Note that V91 comes with an internal viewer for PDF files and that file type entry has an additional menu action of view in Thunderbird.

Just found a typo in my responses to you 2 years ago. But I assume as I never heard back you got the message and compacting fixed the problem.
