Installed Java 6.3 and now Firefox crashes when I open it. Disabled Java and now it seems ok.

I use Chrome more than Firefox, but I just bought a credit card reader/encrypter, and must use Firefox. When I went to open it, Firefox crashed on startup. The only add-on I installed recently besides the Smartswipe card reader was an update to Java (ver. 6.3). Disabling that add-on made Firefgox work. Do I need Java 6.3?

You have Java Plug-in 1.6.0_23 installed, which is the latest security update. It shouldn't be causing Firefox to crash.

You're right. The problem is with the Smartswipe credit card encrypter and not the Java update. I'm working with tech support for the Smartswipe now. When I disable the add-on Firefox works fine.
