I started having problems when I upgraded to FireFox 4. First, I had several windows open when FF locked up. I had to close it from the task manager. When I restarted FF, not all the windows re-opened.

Secondly, I started having a problem when I click on "open in new tab" that the new tab gets opened in one of the other open windows.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

This can also be a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

You will have to redo App Tabs and Tab Groups after deleting sessionstore.js.
