I frequently get notice that an update for Firefox is available for my Macbook. If I just click on it to update it will run on and on and on and on with no apparent results. If I click on more info or the thing that opens the Firefox home page and then click on download, it will download the "latest" version. The problem is that I already have the latest version, unless you are updating it several times a week. How do I disable these notificaitons that are supposed to be just automatic?

Your Firefox 4.0.1 version is not the latest.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded
