When ever I open a new window, all my history is gone, and most of the websites I typed into the url are also gone. Did I somehow set my browser to do this?

So one night my browser closed unexpected and when I reopened it, all of my history was gone and I was logged out of all the sites I use. I've gone through the tools, but I haven't been able to fix this.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

Another possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
