Does anyone know how to disable Abuchak on Google search that hitchhiked on a Firefox update?
My computer updated to Mozilla Firefox 10, after that my search engine Google always said Abuchak by Google. No one seems to know how to get rid of this, all I know is that it was a hitchhiker on the firefox update and it can't be found in my computer to delete it. It overtakes my home page every time I try to reset it to my yahoo. We have researched it as much as we can and can't find out anything about it. Please help us if you know about this problem.

Scan for malware. It definitely sounds like a malware invasion.
- Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
- SuperAntispyware - http://www.superantispyware.com/
- Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
- AdAware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
If these don't find it or can't clear it, post in one of these forums for specialized malware removal help:
- Remove "ConnectBar (version)" extension (if you have it installed):
- Add-ons > Extensions, click "Remove" next to "ConnectBar (version)" if it is in your Extensions list, then Re-start Firefox.
- See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons
- See: http://support.mozilla.com/n-US/kb/Cannot%20uninstall%20an%20add-on
- Reset your home page (if the Abuchak search page is displayed when starting Firefox): http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
- You can reset to the default by clicking "Restore to default" on Options > General > Startup > Home page. Be sure to set "When Firefox starts" to "Show my home page" on that same panel.
- Reset your Location Bar search engine (if typing a few words in the URL/Location Bar takes you to Abuchak search):
- type about:config in your Location Bar, like typing a web site address, and press the Enter key
- ignore warning and choose to continue
- in Filter, type keyword.URL
- in lower part of screen, if it is bold and shows "user set", right-click keyword.URL and choose "Reset"
- in Filter, type abuchak
- any items in lower part of screen in bold and showing "user set", right-click and choose "Reset"
- close about:config tab
- See:
- If Abuchak is shown in your Search Bar and you want to remove it:
If you still have a problem with Abuchak search
Use Firefox Safe Mode to find a problem with an Extension or Plugin:
- Don't check anything when entering Safe Mode, just continue
- If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode it is probably and Extension or Plugin causing the problem

9/24/2011. Here is the simplest way yet, which has worked for me. On the top toolbar of Google browser (or Firefox), click (open) Tools, then open Options, then on the Home Page line, replace abuchak with www.google.com. Hey, it worked. C Yopst
cmpssn2000@aol.com:
That only corrects the home page problem and does not remove Abuchak from your system.

It may LOOK like a new virus/malware.....but it didn't turn out that way on my PC when I got that page.
After hours of scanning using different programs, etc....I noticed what should have been the FIRST PLACE TO CHECK was set wrongly to Abuchak.
Click on "Tools," then "Options" and see what home page is listed as primary (will likely be "abuchak.net" or similar). If your listed home page is wrong, that is the place to change it back to where you want it to be. Make the change for designated home page, then restart FF.
That was all it took, for me. I spent hours running in circles thinking it was a real bug, but in the end it was just a re-written home page direction!
Hope that's all it is for you, too! ;)
(see above post) I would only add that the problem first started to show after I had installed a new "background" for my FaceBook page from a site named "PAGE RAGE." If you get to that site, you're next prompted to accept a download. DO NOT GO FURTHER!! That download came from a redirect to connectbar.net. Doing a re-install helps because it resets the home page but takes time, etc. But try the above, first.
