Why can't I view any links or banner ads in FF but I can in other browsers?

I can't see any of my Google ads, banner, text or product links on FF but I can view them in Google Chrome and IE. I have cleaned and deleted everything and updated and I still can't see them.

Hi Moopaw,
sorry you are having problems.

I am not to sure I understand correctly what you are trying to tell me.

Are your ads and links on a web-page you have built and they are not showing in Firefox. Or are you talking about webpages on the internet that you are viewing.

Please provide a link to a couple of problem pages as examples. Please use something that can be accessed without a login.

If you will add a screenshot of one such site from Firefox, and another screenshot from Google it will help us to understand what is happening.

This is on your own website? Two thoughts:

(1) Are you running any ad blockers, script blockers, or other kinds of filters? You can check on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions.

(2) Do you find a notification icon in the address bar to the left of the padlock or globe? If so, please click the icon and see what it says.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.

  • Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden "Menu Bar" temporarily.
  • Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
  • Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images
  • Select the first image link and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
  • If an image in the list is grayed and "Block Images from..." has a check-mark then remove this check-mark to unblock images from this domain.

Make sure that you do not block (third-party) images, the permissions.default.image pref on the about:config page should be 1.

Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Note that these settings affect background images.

There are extensions like Adblock Plus (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images and other content.

One other thought for webmasters when things don't load: Firefox is particular about the slashes you use in a URL. Must be / and not \. Worth a quick check.
