I am receiving numerous emails from a person who has me on his mailing list. Is there a way I can stop his emails from appearing in my inbox? in my inbox?

The person I refer to is an acquaintance of mine who put me on his email list of family and friends. I tried using the FILTERING tool in Thunderbird, but without success and I have sent him an email asking him to delete my name from his list, to no avail.

Tools > Message Filters

  • Filters for 'Select the mail account' if not already selected.
  • click on New
  • give filter a name

Apply filter when:

  • select 'Manually run
  • select 'Getting new mail'
  • select 'Filter before Junk Controls'
  • select 'match all of the following'

Set condition:

  • 'FROM' and 'IS' or 'Contains' and email address of person

Perform these actions:

  • 'Move message to' and choose the account and folder.

You could move it to the Junk folder allowing you the opportunity of viewing the email just in case it is a good email. Up to you.

If you want to just delete it, then select 'Delete Message' instead of 'Move Message to'.

  • click on OK to create the filter.

Make sure the email is positioned at the top of the list, as the top filter works first. If it is positioned lower down, that email may get filtered by another filter and move from Inbox before the actual filter you want to use is called. So the email is not removed/moved because it was not there.

Finally, make sure the filter is enabled.
