I had been having a lot of trouble with IE9 and the updates, switched to Firefox, which I like, but really want to get the IE9 off my computer. Can I safely uninstall?

Unfortunately you can't remove IE from your machine, Microsoft hasn't made that possible, but you don't ever have to open it again if you like Firefox :)
