T'bird 31 hangs when replying to a multiple thread mail
I updated to version 31 today. Ever since, when replying to emails that have several threads (2, 3 or more responses attached) the send button hangs up. If I wait long enough, or fiddle, it may go to draft. Why? What can I do to get these sort of threaded replies to send like an original bare basic mail?

not branching into something new, I asked if you had it as it sounded like you did. you asked what it was which basically answered my question, but I provided a link to answer your question of what was it.
I have no idea what having 2 or 3 responses attached, I thought the add-on might explain it. So what does it mean?
Turn off email scanning:- Almost all anti virus programs scan outgoing mail as well as incoming.
No one else has reported your issue, so unless your prepared to work through the process and work out exactly what IS wrong your destined to never upgrade to a newer version. Ever. The issue will not be investigated further by someone unless you have it to be resolved.

using the conversations add-on?
No. There are no add-ons installed for t'bird.
What is a conversations add-on?
The sequence is just mail/reply/further reply etc. Doing the further reply bit is where the problem seems to be.

turn off email scanning in your anti virus and see if that helps. They often malfunction when mail clients update.
Conversations add-on see here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/gmail-conversation-view/?src=ss
I am not a fan, but there are more than 75.000 that disagree with me.
Turning off email scanning - possible but it's only applicable on incoming mails. This problem is with outgoing mails. Is there a way to revert the version of thunderbird from within? In my case, it was 24.0.6 that upgraded to 31.0. Is there a control that would allow me to revert to v24.0.6?
Conversations add-on - branching into something new when trying to solve a problem isn't really attractive.
