I have Thunderbird 24.6.0. According to Thunderbird's FAQs about Filelink, "As of Thunderbird 16, we have reached agreement with Box, Ubuntu One and Hightail to integrate their services directly into Thunderbird." But when I go to the dropdown box at Tools > Options > Attachments > Outgoing, and click "Select an online storage service," the only ones it shows are Box, Ubuntu One, and YouSendIt. I would prefer to use Hightail on a temporary basis since I already have an account there. (I'd rather use DropBox, but that involves a different and probably more complicated problem, so will ask for help about that later.)

Thanks, Marc

Hi Marc,

What version of Ubuntu is this? Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and 14.04 LTS come with Thunderbird 31.0.

I checked in both and Hightail is there. YouSendIt is the former name for the same service, it was renamed in 2013.

  • Did you try your HIghtail credentials with YouSendIt?

Hello Fabian,

Thank you for your help. It helped me make progress, but I am still unable to use filelink.

First, to answer your question, I can't tell you what version of Ubuntu showed. After seeing your post, I went back to check, but when I went through Thunderbird's Tools > Options > Attachments, Ubuntu had disappeared from the listing. It now shows only Box and YouSendIt!

Next, I tried your suggestion to select YouSendIt and use my Hightail credentials. That appeared to partially work one time....

I tried sending myself 6 emails, each with the same 6,4 MB attachment. On four occasions, I got the "Your file is being linked" message, but it was followed by a message, "Unable to upload to Hightail." On another occasion, the uploading to Hightail symbol spun for about three minutes before I gave up and closed the email. And on the other occasion, the file actually linked to Hightail! However...

When I received the message, and clicked on the link, I got a "Firefox can't find the server at undefined" error message. I closed and reopened the email several times, and got the same error message every time I clicked the link.

I did go to the Hightail website and successfully log in, so it appears the username and password I used were correct.

Regards, Marc

you need Version 31, as it contains the changed made to the login process that hightail made a few months ago. V24 will not be receiving a back port of the bug fix as I understand it.

@Marc, please check the community documentation about finding out your Ubuntu version. This is important information to know in troubleshooting your software issues.

@Matt, thank you, I didn't know about that. If you have a source for that information it would be useful.

@Marc can you also double-check which version of Thunderbird you are using?

It's normal that Ubuntu One would not be there anymore, as the service was suspended a few months ago: it stopped on June 1st and files were available until July 31st.
