How to quit Firefox (OSX) using keyboard shortcut?

Since the last update to Firefox I haven't been able to use the keyboard shortcut Command + Q to close the application. I know there's a power button on the right-side menu but it's inconvenient to open that and go all the way to the tiny button just to close Firefox.

I tried running Firefox without add-ons, reinstalling, setting Firefox to not clear history on shut down, as suggested in this post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/998538 and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1002156 None of the solutions work for me.

If the issue is that Firefox doesn't close properly when you quit it, then is it possible to map the Quit button to a keyboard shortcut?

Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar. Then Menu > File > Exit.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for an add-on that will put a close/quit button icon on the toolbar.

Doesn't have Command + Q has any effect (even all windows remain open)?

Is there a shortcut key shown in the Firefox menu (Firefox > Quit Firefox)?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Pardon the very late reply. I don't know what I did differently this time but I think browsing in Private Mode extensively is what made Cmd + Q not work. Currently I'm using FF 42 and the functionality seems to have come back, even with all my add-ons that I had previously. I think NoScript was what borked it to begin with, but recent updates must have fixed something.

@FredMcD I'm on OSX so it's not possible to access the top menus by key, that's why I relied on the shortcut Cmd + Q to quit Firefox. I did look into a power button add-on (since you can't move the one from Firefox's hamburger menu...which involves too much clicking anyways), but have seldom used it. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
