G'day, Thunderbird (most recent version) on Win 10 32 bit. all been working fine, with MYOB using MAPI to send emails. Two days ago I had to use outlook so I installed Outlook 2007, used it, then uninstalled it. That broke MAPI so MYOB could not send emails.

I tried telling Thunderbird to "check now" as the default email application, that didn't fix the problem. I then ran a script (I know! ... ) that claimed to restore MAPI settings to normal (whatever that might be), from here : http://support.accountedge.com/kb/error-messages/mapi32dll-error using their MAPIfixit tool

Didn't fix it

I figure my next option is to reinstall Thunderbird - I don't want to blow away my settings though - I've run mozbackup and backed up all the stuff for it, but is there an easier way to reinstall thunderbird so it "fixes' MAPI32 .DLL issues?

Thank you!

I did a remove & reinstall of Thunderbird and a reboot - still seeing the same (similar) problem now  : it's finding the DLL (or at least, not complaining about not finding it) but, I'm now seeing this error :

An email session could not be started. Please check your MAPI installation

Thunderbird stores settings and data separately from the program. uninstall and install do not affect settings and data. Hence we spend a lot of time with folks that think reinstall fixes problems.

Having said that in your case it may well fix the issue as it is not about Thunderbird but the operating system integration. BTW all that tool does it reset registry entries, and not very intelligently from the cursory look at the source I just had.

The reinstall and reboot didn't fix it, is there any way to do some diagnostics to give a more meaningful error message, "it doesn't work" isn't very handy!

I also went through and told Thunderbird to get all its defaults through default programs, set default programs, thunderbird.

Kinda lost as to how to do any further debugging.... there must be some way to identify why it's not working.

I know windows 10 is a pig with defaults. Is Thunderbird being set as the default mail client? Check in Windows 10 default apps
