The address book opens with no address book showing. View/Layout/Directory Pane is checked. Nothing is in that column; it is blank (i.e. no "All Address Books"). New Contact and New List are both greyed out. What am I doing wrong here? This happened after a regular Ubuntu code update. Ubuntu 16.04, Thunderbird 45.2.0. Thanks!

sounds like the MAB files may be locked, or marked as read only in the file system.

Matt, thank you for the thoughts. I may not fully understand your points, but I do know the files are all -rw-rw-r, and the correct person owns them, i.e. my login name. Is there somewhere else I'd check for what you are suggesting?
